VPPs unlike FPPs cannot be used as currency but are a way to determine which PokerStars VIP level the player is entitled to. By collecting VPPs players may move up in the VIP-club and receive more benefits. VIP status is subject to monthly and yearly VPP levels:
BronzeStar: Any player who plays real money games on PokerStars is automatically added as a BronzeStar member. Players gain access to some VIP tournaments and VIP Store
SilverStar: Players who collect more than 750 VPPs in a single month will receive the SilverStar status. Upon this upgrade they earn 50 per cent more FPPs for every VPP they receive. Other benefits include wider selection of VIP tournaments and VIP merchandise available in the PokerStars VIP Store.
GoldStar: This VIP-status is subject to collecting 3,000 VPPs a month. As with SilverStar, GoldStar members will gain access to a greater amount of VIP merchandise and tournaments. They will also earn 2 FPPs for every 1 VPP.
PlatinumStar: Players who collect more than 7,500 VPP a month will be upgraded to PlatinumStar level. In addition to VIP merchandise and tournaments, players will now receive 2.5 FPP per 1 VPP.
These levels are monthly and in order to maintain or gain a higher VIP-status, players must earn the required amount of VPPs in the following month.
PokerStars VIP Program also includes yearly levels which are not affected by monthly VPP requirements. Supernova members who have collected 100,000 or more points in a single year will receive 3.5 FPP per 1 VPP and. Supernova Elite members with a million VPPs can avail of the attractive rate of 5 FPP for every VPP they receive. PokerStars VPP
VPP’s are one of the two major points used by PokerStars for their VIP programs. The main task of the VPP’s is to determine the VIP level of the player. This VIP level begins at bronze and advances through 5 additional ranks as the player collects VPP’s, granting new bonuses and rewards with each passing level. The first level to be unlocked, silver, is granted after collecting just 750 VPP’s.
The other big task of the VPP’s is in unlocking deposit bonuses for players. These bonuses are unlocked in $10 increments up to whatever the maximum is for that particular bonus, and these $10 increments are unlocked with every 170 VPP’s collected. VPP’s are also used to unlock PokerStars’ new stellar rewards, which are $10-$100 cash rewards.
The amount of VPP’s awarded is based on the rake of the pots in table games (not to be confused with the size of the pot, the rake is a fraction of the total size), or on the entry fees in tournaments. For tournaments you’re awarded 5.5 VPP’s for every $1 in entry fees, while for table games, the rate varies based on the number of players at the table. 8 or more results in a reward of 6 VPP’s per $1 in rake, divided equally amongst all players who were dealt into that hand, while for 7 or less the VPP’s awarded falls slightly to 5.5 per $1 of rake.
For players playing at tables with moderate or higher blinds (in the 25c/50c range) the VPP’s will really add up quickly. Playing at penny tables where average pot sizes are minimal will make it a slower and more arduous process to unlock all the necessary VPP’s to advance levels and unlock bonuses, but even then, regular players will be surprised at how quickly their VPP’s rise.
